Vaccinations

My practice offers the routine childhood vaccinations. As Namibia has many different childhood vaccination schedules depending on which practice or hospital one visits or which area of Namibia one lives in, I have been involved in the process of unifying the current schedules and streamline the private and public vaccination schedule since 2019. We hope that by 2023 a final schedule is accepted and implemented throughout Namibia.

Currently the following vaccinations are suggested in Private sector in Namibia according to the latest suggested evidence-based guidelines:

Birth (done in hospitals) – Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, Polio
6 weeks – Hexaxim (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Polio IM, Haemophilus influenza, Hepatitis B), Streptococcus, Rota virus, Polio oral
10 weeks – Hexaxim, Streptococcus, Rota virus
14 weeks – Hexaxim, Streptococcus
from 6 months – Influenza*
9 months – Measles, Meningococcus*
12 months – Hepatitis A*, Chicken pox*
15 months – Hexaxim, Streptococcus, Measles/Mumps/Rubella
18 months – Hepatitis A*
24 months – Meningococcus*, Chicken pox*
5-6 years – booster Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis
9 years (in school for girls) – Human papilloma virus
10-12 years – booster Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis

All the * marked vaccines are voluntary vaccines and the others are standard recommendations and in some form available in Public sector (this is as the state has differently named vaccines but the covered diseases are the same).
