Trauma and Emergency Medicine
Trauma and Emergency Medicine is a specialty that concerns conditions that require immediate diagnosis and prompt action, which is often life-saving. A patient must be stabilized and understood that their immediate and ongoing survival is at stake. It is often required in the casualty setting where the ill patients enter the hospital first, but also in the wards and intensive care units for patients that are becoming suddenly unwell.
My Experience
I have covered the emergency unit throughout my registrarship many times an junior and senior registrar and treated many emergency situations. In addition I graduated with distinction from my first Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) course and subsequently became an instructor in APLS courses. I have been the local organiser for the first APLS course held in Namibia in 2019, teaching advanced resuscitation and emergency care to local practitioners.
