I was born and raised in Magdeburg, a city not far from Berlin in Germany. After years and years of school, or so it felt, followed by a 3-year diploma in government official and law training, I finally started medical school in Leipzig, Germany. Towards the end I took off half a year for some more practical experience and did an elective in Namibia. This is where I got to know my wife and life changed unexpectedly. Soon I moved to South Africa where both of us would specialize, my wife in anesthesiology and I, in pediatrics. I trained at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital – a world-renowned institution for pediatric care.

During my time as registrar we had our firstborn via normal delivery and my wife was lucky to be able to stay home for a year to complete her masters thesis and care for our son. He was breastfeeding for 2 years until my wife fell pregnant with our daughter who was then born in Namibia after we had moved back to Windhoek. She was born in the comfort of our own home in Windhoek with the assistance of our dear midwife Raghilt. Our daughter was also breastfed for 2 years. We cherish our time together as we raise our two children and pursue our careers. Our children are our greatest joy, and we love to travel as a family to experience beautiful places both in Namibia and elsewhere whenever time allows.
